I survived 2012!!

I woke up this morning and i asked myself, where did the year go? I remember 1st January like it was just a second ago. 12 months have gone by so fast and am trying to recollect some of the events that happened in my life over the last few months.Just like every other year 2012 brought me a lot of memories. Memories I will like to play in my head over and over again and giggle about it. And others I would like to bury forever.

However the year has been,I am grateful that I've lived through the months till now. The best part of my year was meeting Adrian. Very cute and adorable kid that I'll never forget. Am sitting here on my bed wondering what 2013 has in store for me. Of course we all got our expectations for new years. But one thing I know for sure is am gonna live every day of the rest of my life happy. My mum used to say being happy is all that matters and I think she's right.

Hopefully, I'll graduate with a Bachelor Of Arts Degree in Communication Studies in 2013. I really look forward to that day for the journey hasn't been easy. For some reasons am not writing any resolutions for 2013.

If there's anything 2012 has taught me, it's never to look back no matter how bad things may get and have no regrets because time really flies and situations can change within a blink of an eye.I lived through 2012 with my fair share of pain, sorrow and setbacks. But i survived..With barely 48 hours till the end of the year, I can say I survived 2012!! R.I.P to the precious lives that were lost during 2012.

To my friends and family, thank you for being part of my 2012. Thank you for the wonderful memories we created and the love, joy and laughter we shared. Happy New Year!! Let's do it again!See you in 2013!!

Officials Beg for Money at Kotoka International Airport

This piece is about an encounter my friend had at the Kotoka International Airport on his way to the United States of America.

On Sunday, 10th June, 2012 at about 6:00 pm, he went to Kotoka to check in. After the lady at the passport clearing point had finished checking his passport, she begged him for money to buy a malt drink. He ignored her and walked on to the next check point.

To his surprise, he encountered same incident at the final check point. Three officials at the airport, a gentleman and two ladies bluntly and shamelessly asked him for money after he had been cleared to board the plane.

 Well, my friend is the type that believes that everything must be done the right way, so he didn’t give them a dime.

 Now, the Airport is the fore front of the nation and it tells visitors the kind of people we are as a nation. It gives an impression about the nation.

 If these workers at the airport were able to shamelessly beg for money from their fellow countryman, then it's no doubt that they are capable of doing same to foreigners.

We complain about how the international press portray us when reporting issues on this continent. But the truth is, they report what they see and experiences when they come here. Assuming my friend was a foreign reporter, you can imagine the headline this story will have. What an embarrassment it will be for our dear motherland.

 In the era where everything is being done to combat unscrupulous people and items from getting into the country, this issue is a very serious one and must not be taken lightly. Because if we have such people at our check points, they would take anything and allow terrorists entry to the country and put all of us in danger.

The peace we enjoy in this nation partly depends on these officials at our airports and check points.

This is a wakeup call for the management of the Ghana Airport Company Limited to be vigilant and put serious measures in place to punish any staff that is caught in such unprofessional act to serve as a deterrent unto other members of staff.

To you my dear reader please DO NOT give to any staff who begs you for money at the airport or check points. It is getting out of hand and we must do something about it. It starts with you. Let's help our nation develop.

Love To All Mums

Proud mothers with their kids.

I know mother's day is three days away but I just want to do this now. Any woman who is blessed with the fruit of the womb should see it beyond blessing. More like the whole of a human being entrusted in your hands.

Every mother holds motherhood with pride. She looks beyond the sleepless nights. It is only a mother who understands the hilarious weird things kids say when they're learning to talk. A good mother is loved by her children, even when she scolds them; they still hold on to her and share their moments of cry and laughter together.

 I am not a mother yet, but I am really looking forward to it. I know I’ll be a great mum. You don’t have to wait till mother's day before you do something special for your mum or tell her how much you love her. Mother's day may just be too late. Tell her how much you love her now and trust me mother's appreciate the little things their children do for them. That is why my mother will tell all her friends when I buy her a common pen or put up a drawing of her on the fridge.

 Taking care of the family and making sure that everyone is comfortable. Motherhood is that special thing. It is chaotic, stressful and comes with all the unexpected things. Can you imagine having two jobs and still have to make time for your kids? Motherhood is not knowing what’s gonna hit you next. A mother can’t stand to give up part of their kids, no matter how tiny. Things are always changing with mother's no matter how much they want them to stay the same. Mother’s accept the limitations of time and energy which stretch beyond them. And when they’ve done their tooth fairy routines, they watch with pride as their kids grow each day. Dear mums, time doesn’t stand still…you will look back on this period of your life with great fondness.

Happy mother’s day to all mums; and mums –to- be look forward to motherhood with so much joy for your life is about to change in a wonderful way.

TOTAL DARKNESS IN GHANA! ECG TELL US WHY.

It was not until this morning that it struck me that the current load- shedding by The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is getting out of hand.

 I was listening to an interview of a senior doctor of The Konfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) this morning on joyfm, and amongst the things he said, the mention of the death of a woman due to blackout at the hospital sent shivers done my spine. This woman could be alive now if ECG had spared the hospital from its load- shedding. Last night the entire country experienced a blackout. This is the third time this year. ECG should know better not to involve life saving institutions such as hospitals in their "on and off" jamboree. 

Ghana turned 55 not long ago and this is what the masses have to deal with each day.

 From what I’ve heard and read, as at now, the Ghana Grid Company does not know the cause of this problem.  Unhappy customers of this utility took to the social media networks to express their anger and disappointment of the nationwide blackout last night.

Ghanaians are paying so much money for electricity therefore we have the right to demand for better services. The ECG takes power as and when they like and sometimes consumers are not given prior notice about it. I bet no top official has lost a dear one due to this "light off" yet.

Today is World International Women's Day! Today is the day women are celebrated all over the world. As a woman I feel empowered that the whole world sets a day to celebrate us.

Growing up, I’ve come across wonderful women who in one way or the other have taught me something extraordinary that I take with me everywhere I go. I say women are amazing! I say this not because of my gender but I've seen too much not to know that.

As a Ghanaian and an African, I’ve heard of the wonderful things some women have done to change their communities and the world. Some made a difference through their music and also in the fight for women rights.

 Most of these phenomenal women died even before I saw the sunlight on earth but like I always say when you make a difference in the life of someone or people you give them a gift and a story which they pass on from generation to generation. The legacy of a woman who made a difference is priceless.

I've been observing one particular woman from a distance and I must say I salute her for her hard work and determination. I first heard her name on joy fm during their "My business 2010" reality show.

Gloria Buckman - Yankson of PlanIt Events Ghana. The theme for this year's celebration is "Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures". Watching her from a distance, I feel connected to my source and inspired by not only what she does, but how she does it.

Billions of women are physically and emotionally abused. Women have been  branded as sex symbols. As we celebrate International Women's Day, may it be a call to the end of women abuse all over the world.
