TOTAL DARKNESS IN GHANA! ECG TELL US WHY.

It was not until this morning that it struck me that the current load- shedding by The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is getting out of hand.

I was listening to an interview of a senior doctor of The Konfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) this morning on joyfm, and amongst the things he said, the mention of the death of a woman due to blackout at the hospital sent shivers done my spine. This woman could be alive now if ECG had spared the hospital from its load- shedding. Last night the entire country experienced a blackout. This is the third time this year. ECG should know better not to involve life saving institutions such as hospitals in their "on and off" jamboree.

Ghana turned 55 not long ago and this is what the masses have to deal with each day.
From what I’ve heard and read, as at now, the Ghana Grid Company does not know the cause of this problem.  Unhappy customers of this utility took to the social media networks to express their anger and disappointment of the nationwide blackout last night.

Ghanaians are paying so much money for electricity therefore we have the right to demand for better services. The ECG takes power as and when they like and sometimes consumers are not given prior notice about it. I bet no top official has lost a dear one due to this "light off" yet.

Beautiful In So Many Ways.....Happy International Women's Day!!!

Every Home, Every Heart, Every Feeling, Every Moment of Happiness is incomplete without you. You complete this world.

Today is World International Women's Day! Today is the day women are celebrated all over the world. As a woman I feel empowered that the whole world sets a day to celebrate us.

Growing up, I’ve come across wonderful women who in one way or the other have taught me something extraordinary that I take with me everywhere I go. I say women are amazing! I say this not because of my gender but I've seen too much not to know that.

As a Ghanaian and an African, I’ve heard of the wonderful things some women have done to change their communities and the world. Some made a difference through their music and also in the fight for women rights.

Most of these phenomenal women died even before I saw the sunlight on earth but like I always say when you make a difference in the life of someone or people you give them a gift and a story which they pass on from generation to generation. The legacy of a woman who made a difference is priceless.

I've been observing one particular woman from a distance and I must say I salute her for her hard work and determination. I first heard her name on joy fm during their "My business 2010" reality show.
Gloria Buckman - Yankson of PlanIt Events Ghana. The theme for this year's celebration is "Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures". Watching her from a distance, I feel connected to my source and inspired by not only what she does, but how she does it.

Billions of women are physically and emotionally abused. Women have been  branded as sex symbols. As we celebrate International Women's Day, may it be a call to the end of women abuse all over the world.

Happy International Women's Day to every woman! You’re beautiful. Feel special, unique and on top of the world!!

New Year Rituals!

Every new year we have our expectations, hopes and aspirations. We write our tall resolutions which we may never even keep till the end of the first month.

At the beginning of a new year an alcoholic and smoker say they quit. But do they really quit? Everyone is excited about the beginning of a new year. Yes! We all see it as a fresh start to everything. But you see, at the end of it all it's just the calender we change. Our lives are still the same.

We still stay with the same terrible bosses and same friends and family. Our attitudes and lives hardly change. If it did then it was only on christmas eve. I woke up this morning and my time line on twitter and facebook was jammed with new year, new me, new this, new that..well am getting sick of it because last year you said the same thing.

Maybe what we really ought to do is take a moment to reflect. I know for sure today the congregation at the church I attend will multiply by 1000 and shrink by the end of the first week in the new year. Amazing isn't it? Haha.. Whatever you do tonight just remember to set your priorities right and don't jump on the band wagon.

Thank you all for been part of my 2011, let's do it again in 2012!!! Happy New Year!!!

Trotro lover boy....

Saturday morning I was on my way to work and I had the weirdest encounter with a guy.

Now, I don't usually go to work on saturdays. I always sleep till sun rise. But this particular saturday my boss had specifically ordered me to supervise some maintenance work in the office. Somehow, I managed to get out of bed though I didn't want to. I quickly took my bath because I was running late. After pleading with my cousin to drop me off at the bus station, I got on a trotro which was going to circle(that wasn't so easy).

I sat uncomfortably in the trotro. Shifting and adjusting myself from time to time. The last passenger boarded the vehicle and we finally hit the road. I was sitting in the trotro minding my business and admiring nature when I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was the guy sitting next to me. He greeted and I responded. After a while I took my blackberry from my bag and was playing with it. Then he said "I like your phone". At this time I realised the guy was trying to get my attention. He kept talking and talking. He went on and on and on...most of the time I didn't hear what he was saying. And then he asked for my number .I bluntly refused. And then he started begging.

Am wondering why he badly needs my number. This took my mind back on stories I've heard on guys taking girls numbers and then taking them to mallam's so they can have their way with them. Hmm!

A girl about my age boarded the vehicle. The only seat available was next to the guy. Immediately the girl sat down he greeted her. Before I realised they were talking and laughing. Eeei nsem wo world ooo. This boy paa. They exchanged numbers and he even paid for her fare.

So am wondering he boarded a trotro just for a girl's number or what? Your guess is at good as mine. Ah well...he got what he wanted.

No strike farmer!!!

Dear farmers,

On behalf of the people of Ghana and my own behalf I would like to say ayekoo to you. We know the job aint easy. Well no job is, actually.

Walking up the fields both day and night in whatever weather just to make sure we don't starve to death. I always have a special place in my heart for you. My dear farmer reading this, I really like ripe plantain and I like pork too. Kindly produce more of those just for me so I can gain some weight. Haha..

On a more serious note though, my mum keeps complaining that food stuffs are expensive everytime she comes back from the weekly shopping. I want to know is it the market women that are over pricing the food stuffs or it's the ecomini oh sorry economy rather. I guess the big fat market queen wants more cash to buy extra calories.

I wonder why you don't go on strike. Neither do you demonstrate. Because even if I don't know anything about your plights I remember the one's I read in that science book in primary school. I bought oranges the other time and they tasted like mango. Oh yes! It happened to me.

Hmm my dear farmer, I know you've been trying so hard to win "Best farmer award". But don't you worry whether you win or not please keep feeding us. We appreciate and salute you on this day. Ghanaians say thank you and God bless. And oh thank you for giving us this holiday. I guess I can sleep and snore all day. Salute!

Yours truly,
Ghanaians

NB: Please reduce the chemical fertilisers!!

Early December!!!

OMG! I can not believe today is 1st December!! Well hello december, we've all been expecting you.

I remember january like it was Just yesterday. The eve of new year. The fire works and oh the fight I had with my boyfriend. Well now my ex(thank God). This year has flown by really quick. The year hasn't ended yet. With 30 days more to say goodbye to 2011, I say thanks be to God for how far he's brought me,my family, friends and everyone else who's made it this far. For those who couldn't make it, I say may the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. I made friends and of course I lost some. I've had so much drama at sch which I didn't even think would ever happen. But hey shit happens and life must surely go on.

I lost love and found love at a place I never imagined I would. There is nothing like a friend who will stick up for you and have your back through out the test of time. To my love and friend if you're reading this I say thanx for having my back and I got yours too anytime.

It's has been a memorable year so far. I managed to get my story published in a national newspaper. As a student journalist and writer that meant a lot to me. Christmas is almost here again and I ask where is Santa? Lol.

What are you looking forward to this Christmas? For me it's about reunion. The harmattan seem to be out of coverage area. But I hope it comes soon because am burning from the scorching sun. Whew! Are the christmas ghosts in town already? Am yet to do my christmas shopping so I can't say for now. But am expecting them you know, it sets the mood and atmosphere for the festive season.

Aww duty calls and I have to get back to work. I know I've been away for a very long time but hey one of my new year resolution is to update my blog often. I hope I keep it though. Because I usually write them and even forget all about it. I know you do that too. Haha..I will be back sooner than you expect.

Stay safe and oh it's World Aids Day! Don't forget to get tested. Abstain or if you're a pervert use condom. Peace out!

Birthday Blues

For a moment I wished that today the 9th of June, 2011 will never come to an end. But there is an end for every beginning. I feel very loved and blessed to have such great family & friends who care this much about me.
The phone calls, love, blessings and messages from well wishers are overwhelming! I've had a fulfilling day and I couldn't have made it this far without the hand of God upon my life. Thank you Lord. You’re awesome!! I owe you one.
I didn't throw a party neither did I blow the candles.

But one thing I know for sure is I've got you happy people around me. What could be better than that? It’s a cool evening in Accra and am enjoying the breeze. Am going to enjoy every bit of the rest of my day.
Am stepping out soon but I can’t tell where am going because I don’t know yet. But I promise I’ll “jist” you everything in my next post.

It's barely 4hours till my day ends. But until it's over, it's still my birthday. Thank you so much everyone.

Stay Sweet!! It’s my 22nd Birthday!!
